A 7,000-Year Journey Through History and Culture in Turkey’s First City Museum

Located inside Kültürpark (Reşat Oyal Culture Park), the Bursa Archaeological Museum houses an immense historical collection originating from the Bithynia (Strymon) and Mysia regions, spanning from 15,000 BC to the end of the Byzantine era. As one of the institutions with the deeply rooted museum traditions in Turkey, this facility is a captivating stop for history enthusiasts, showcasing prehistoric artifacts, marble statues from the Archaic, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods, sarcophagi, coin collections, and inscriptions.
The Miocene section displays fossils dating back millions of years, alongside daily life tools, ceramics, and human traces from the Chalcolithic (Copper), Neolithic, and Bronze Ages unearthed during excavations at Ilıpınar and Aktopraklık Höyük.
Featuring rich examples of Greek, Ancient Roman, and Byzantine sculpture, this hall displays statues of period gods and goddesses, a bronze Athena bust, exquisite glass items, jewelry, and votive inscriptions.
In addition to the steles and sarcophagi in the museum interior, giant sarcophagi, gravestones, column capitals, and architectural stone fragments belonging to the Roman and Byzantine periods are exhibited outdoors under centuries-old trees in the spacious garden.
Kültürpark Cafes: Since the museum is located inside Kültürpark, there are wide food and beverage options at lakeside cafes, tea gardens, and restaurants throughout the park.
Around the Museum: Snack kiosks and ice cream vendors are available along the park’s walking paths.
Examine the Athena Bust: Up close, inspect the bronze Athena bust—one of the museum’s most precious pieces—and the Roman-era marble sculptures.
Tour the Sarcophagi in the Garden: Take a stroll among ancient steles and sarcophagi under the shade of centuries-old trees in the museum garden.
Take a Break in Kültürpark: After your museum visit, enjoy a walk around Kültürpark and relax with a tea break near the lake.
Müzekart Valid: Since the museum is affiliated with the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, entry is free or discounted with a Müzekart.
Mind the Monday Closure: The museum is closed on Mondays; be sure to plan your tour for Tuesday through Sunday.
