Six Centuries of Majesty and a Refreshing Break in Nature
HOME > CITY GUIDE > HÜNKAR MANSION MUSEUM
Built in just 19 days in 1844 for Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid’s visit to Bursa, Hünkar Mansion (Hünkar Köşkü) is an elegant hunting lodge located in the Yıldırım district on the slopes of Mount Uludağ. Having hosted prominent statesmen such as Sultan Abdülmecid, Sultan Abdülaziz, Sultan Abdülhamid, and Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, the mansion stands as one of Bursa’s most special historical destinations with its French Empire-style architecture, original palace furnishings, and a panoramic view overlooking the entire city.
Located on the ground floor of the mansion, the magnificent Reception Hall is decorated with original French wallpapers, crystal chandeliers, and period-style elegant furniture. The private room where Atatürk stayed and worked during his visits to Bursa, along with his personal belongings, is preserved and displayed according to the original layout.
Located on the upper floor, the rest rooms showcase the simplicity and elegance of Ottoman palace life with hand-embroidered ceiling decorations, period craftsmanship corner sofas, and solid wood carvings.
Surrounded by dense pine and century-old trees, the mansion garden features a breathtaking viewing terrace where you can breathe in the fresh Uludağ air while enjoying a bird’s-eye view of Historic Bursa (Tophane, Heykel, Setbaşı) and the city’s modern face.
Hünkar Köşkü Social Facilities Cafe & Restaurant: Located in the garden, this municipally operated venue offers a rich menu where you can enjoy breakfast, Turkish tea/coffee, or lunch and dinner overlooking the Bursa view.
Drink Coffee Against the Bursa Landscape: Take a tea or Turkish coffee break at the outdoor terrace of the social facilities, taking in the panoramic city view.
Inspect the Room Where Atatürk Stayed: Get an up-close look at the study desk and bedroom used by Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during his Bursa visits.
Pose in Front of the Architecture: Take photos set against the wooden exterior of the mansion backed by the pine forest.
Monday Visit Planning: Although the museum building is closed on Mondays, the Social Facilities in the garden remain open, making Monday a great choice solely for a scenic breakfast or tea/coffee break.
Prefer Guided Tours: Touring with the staff guides to learn the 19-day construction story and palace details adds immense enjoyment to the visit.
