HOME > CITY GUIDE > ÜFTADE HAZRETLERİ TOMB AND MOSQUE
Located in Bursa’s historical Tophane district right alongside the city walls, the Üftade Hazretleri Tomb and Mosque is the final resting place of Mehmet Muhyiddin Üftade Hazretleri, a great 16th-century Sufi master and founder of the Celvetiyye order. Having inspired prominent Ottoman sultans such as Suleiman the Magnificent and Murad III, as well as renowned spiritual figures like Aziz Mahmud Hüdayi Hazretleri, this sacred site stands as one of Bursa’s most significant spiritual pilgrimage destinations.
Featuring a square plan and domed architecture, the tomb houses the sarcophagi (sanduka) of Üftade Hazretleri, his sons, and his disciples. The calligraphy inscriptions on the sarcophagi and the mystic atmosphere inside offer visitors a deep sense of serenity.
Personally built by Üftade Hazretleri in 1570, the mosque and lodge structure stands out with its fine wooden craftsmanship and modest period architecture. Used as a center for culture and learning for centuries, the complex continues to serve as an active place of worship today.
Set directly upon the historic Bursa city walls, the courtyard and surrounding street level reveal panoramic views extending over Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami), Koza Han, and the vast Bursa plain.
Surrounding Cafes & Tea Gardens: Tea gardens and cafes are available near the tomb and inside Tophane Park where visitors can rest and enjoy a drink.
Traditional Flavors: Restaurants and eateries in the Tophane and Hisar neighborhoods serve famous Bursa Kebab, simit, and traditional baked goods.
Visit the Tomb and Mosque Interior: Offer prayers at the tomb of Üftade Hazretleri and admire the exquisite woodwork and calligraphic artwork inside the historic mosque.
Walk to Tophane Park: After your visit, head up to adjacent Tophane Park to visit the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi.
Admire Bursa View from the Walls: Enjoy the panoramic view of Bursa’s historic rooftops and plain from the viewpoints along the city walls.
Dress Code & Etiquette: As this is an active place of worship and sacred tomb, visitors should wear modest clothing covering shoulders and knees; shoes must be removed before stepping inside the mosque and tomb.
Fridays & Religious Holidays Crowds: Fridays, holy nights (kandil), and the month of Ramadan attract large crowds; visit during weekday morning hours for a quieter, more tranquil experience.
