HOME > CITY GUIDE > ZENNUP 1844 & EKER MEYDAN ROUTE
Led by Chef Ömür Akkor, Zennup 1844 opened its doors at Eker Meydan in Bursa’s Nilüfer district, taking its name from Melceü’t-Tabbâhîn (“Refuge of Cooks”), the first Ottoman cookbook printed in 1844. Remaining faithful to original early-period Ottoman palace cuisine, Seljuk recipes, and forgotten Anatolian dishes, Zennup 1844 offers a rich menu ranging from stone-oven pitas to casseroles, making it much more than an ordinary restaurant—it stands as one of the most essential gastronomy stops during a Bursa visit.
Every dish on the Zennup 1844 menu stays true to original period recipes. Prepared using heirloom seeds, sour cherry-sweetened stuffed vine leaves, lamb casseroles, and aromatic stews served in copper cookware, traditional soups are crafted with care. Fresh stone-oven pitas, stews, and signature halva desserts stand out among the restaurant’s famous offerings.
Located inside the restaurant, this concept grocery section features heirloom seeds carefully collected from across Turkey, special cold-pressed olive oils, natural spice varieties, regional cheeses, and artisanal jams available for purchase. Visitors can take these authentic flavors home with them.
Eker Meydan features open-air walking zones, modern architecture, select shops, and a lively social atmosphere in Nilüfer, making it a convenient venue to crown your meal with a pleasant stroll.
Try Ottoman Palace Recipes: Sample fresh stone-oven pitas, lamb casseroles, and sour cherry-infused stuffed grape leaves.
Buy Regional Goods at Zennup Bakkal: Purchase natural olive oils, specialty flours, and spices collected from around Turkey as culinary souvenirs.
Enjoy Ember-Brewed Turkish Coffee & Halva: Crown your meal with famous palace halva paired with ember-brewed Turkish coffee.
Make a Reservation: Zennup 1844 is highly popular, especially during weekend breakfasts and dinner hours; booking a table in advance is strongly recommended.
Ask for the Daily Menu: Be sure to ask your waiter about special daily palace recipes prepared with seasonal and fresh ingredients.
